I love to eat Asian inspired dishes, but do to some crazy food allergies I have, I unfortunately don’t get to enjoy very many of them. Here is one dish that my family and I are able to enjoy at home.
So here is my take on Beef & Broccoli:
First you need about 1 to 1 ½ lbs of flank steak, sliced into thin strips.
Then marinate the meat in this for at least an hour:
-1/2 Tsp Baking Soda
-1 Tsp Sugar
-1 Tbsp Cornstarch
-1 Tbsp Soy Sauce (low-sodium)
-1 Tbsp Water
-2 Tbsp Veg. Oil
For the sauce:
½ Cup Soy Sauce (low-sodium)
2 Tbsp Brown Sugar
4 Cloves Garlic, minced
2 Tbsp Flour
3 Tbsp Veg Oil
2 Heads of Broccoli, crowns only
In a small bowl stir together: soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic and flour. Set aside.
In a large wok or saute pan, heat 2 tbsp of veg oil over high/medium heat. Add broccoli and saute for about 3 minutes stirring frequently. Transfer broccoli to plate.
Add the remaining tbsp of oil to the hot pan. Add the marinated meat and half of the sauce mixture and saute for 3 to 4 minutes, stir often, cook until meat is cooked through. Stir in the broccoli and remaining sauce. Cook for about 1 minute then serve over rice.
